Owner Spotlight: Alex Young and Lindsey Stoner of Blue Heron Community Farm

Hello! We are Alex Young and Lindsey Stoner, the owners and farmers of Blue Heron Community Farm in Reedsville. We sell vegetables, fruit, flowers, and pasture raised meat through CSA, farmer's markets, and wholesale in Milwaukee, Manitowoc, the Fox Valley, and Madison. Our farm is transitioning to organic and will be certified at the start of 2020.

We have been active supporters small farms and local food since we met in college at the University of Utah over ten years ago. Since then, we spent years gaining education and experience with the dream of owning and operating our own farm one day. Three years ago, we were able to make this dream a reality and we are loving every minute of it.

When we aren’t busy farming, we love cooking, spend time in the outdoors, and traveling to see new parts of the world. Living a seasonal lifestyle allows us to enjoy winters off from work and we aim to make the most of that free time every year. It’s our chance to recharge and enter each farm season with new energy.

We invested and became owners in the Clipper City Co-Op because we believe in promoting a local, community-based food system. We have been members of co-ops when we lived in Milwaukee and Madison and have seen first hand the impact they can have on food access and community development. Having a member owned, local grocery store allows us to keep our food dollars local and offers us a voice in how our food is sourced, which our important values to us.

Manitowoc needs a food co-op in order provide an anchoring institution for building community. Manitowoc County, and all of Wisconsin, has so many diverse, small farms and local food producers. A co-op would provide access to these local businesses and keep food dollars in our county and state.
