Owner Spotlight: Joe and Rachel Cohen

December 27, 2018

Tell us a little about yourselves-where are you from, what do you do for a living, any hobbies?

Joe is a Two Rivers-native who is a software designer at Roydan Enterprises, and I hail from Menominee, MI/Wausaukee, WI, and have several part-time gigs-- Salvation Army food pantry coordinator, pub trivia host, stay-at-home-mom, and coordinator for young adult ministry for Lakeshore Catholic.  We love hosting tabletop board game nights, cooking and baking, and spending time with our little boy, William.

Why did you invest in the co-op and become an owner?

Our Catholic faith compels us to care for creation and advocate for economic justice.  Clipper City Co-op will help keep small farmers and producers in business, and will help reduce our carbon footprint by eliminating the need of fossil fuels to make healthy food accessible.  With the release of the Federal Climate Report last week, it is clear we need to take many small and large steps to turn things around for our planet.  Climate change always affects the poor first, so we feel it is our responsibility to do something about it, even if we are not directly affected ourselves.

Why do you feel Manitowoc needs a food co-op?

A food co-op is one small step to make the world cleaner and more just.  It makes it possible for small farmers to get fair earnings for their work, and makes it possible to access local food all year-round.  We're so excited to be a part of this process!
