CCC Board of Directors Participate in Leadership Retreat
On Saturday, January 14, the recently-elected Board of Directors met 9:00-3:00 with Anne Reynolds and Kelly Maynard from the University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperatives. The UW Center fosters understanding about cooperatives and provides training and consultation services to a wide variety of co-ops. The CCC Board received training on cooperative board governance, cooperative finance, and running an owner-loan campaign. Board member Jan Van Eycke noted that the day “provided a wealth of knowledge about cooperative finance and owner loan campaigns.” Tony Fodden agreed that the training helped him to understand “the responsibilities and tools for proper management of finance.” Overall, the retreat gave your Board an excellent opportunity to learn more about working together efficiently, while developing strategies to continue paving the way toward opening our own food co-op in Manitowoc.
Cath Tease, the President of the Board said about the day, “I feel so confident with the direction Clipper City is heading. The board retreat helped us prioritize the work our board will focus on, including the pro forma (our financial snapshot), which will move us close the owner loan campaign.”
Jenn’s Java, owned by CCC owners Jennifer Backus and Aaron Kowalski, hosted the retreat. Thank you for partnering with us, Jenn’s Java! The day was financed by grants from the Howard Bowers Fund and the Food Co-op Initiative. We are very grateful to the continued support from organizations and individuals who believe in the mission of Clipper City Co-op.
